摘要: 传统的艺术社会史在阶级、意识形态及艺术形式之间假定了某种较为粗陋的关系(比如豪泽尔的阶级决定艺术风格论),正是这个背景衬托出了T. J. 克拉克艺术社会史观的独特性:绘画并不能直接表现“阶级”和“意识形态”,只有当这些范畴影响到绘画的视觉结构,从而改变有关绘画的既定概念(传统和惯例)时,这一点才有可能。

Abstract: The paper discusses T. J. Clark's social history of art, claiming that as a development upon the traditional version. Traditional social history of art assumes a simplistic relationship among class, ideology and art form, such as Hauser's notion of class identification as the determinant of artistic style. Clarks asserts that "class" and "ideology" may not be manifest in paintings but can be shown only when these external domains have exerted an influence on the visual structure of painting and changed the established concepts of painting such as tradition and convention in painting.
