利维斯《细察》集团回溯实录

摘要/Abstract

摘要： 本文聚焦于20世纪英国文学批评和文化批评领域的代表性人物F.R.利维斯及其《细察》集团。《细察》（Scrutiny，1932年—1953年）乃利维斯夫妇于1932年创办的一份学术期刊。它不仅深刻影响了英国几代人的批评思想和教育理念，而且引起中国学界的关注，特别是21世纪初的十几年间，我国的利维斯研究渐呈上升趋势。但多数学者趋向将利维斯及其《细察》集团的学术成就统称为“利维斯学说”“利维斯派”“利维斯主义”，或直接以“利维斯”一概而过，似有将其视为“孤身英雄”，而忽视《细察》“批评共同体”成员所发挥的重要作用。因此，有必要从历史发生学的角度，对这份期刊做一回溯性书写，以真实再现利维斯《细察》集团的学术贡献。

Abstract: This paper focuses on the literary and cultural criticism of F.R. Leavis and the Scrutiny group he represents. Scrutiny (1932-1953) was an academic journal started and run by the Leavises in the 20^th century, which not only profoundly influenced the 20^th-century cultural life of Britain, but also drew attention of the Chinese literary community, especially in the first decade of the 21^st century. But it is obvious that most scholars tend to generalize the academic contributions of Leavis and Scrutiny Group as "Leavisian theory", "Leavisian group", "Leavisianism", or simply "Leavis", by taking him as "a lone hero", disregarding the important role of "the critical community" of the Scrutiny Group. So it is necessary to make a retrospective study of the journal to represent the academic contributions of Leavis and the Scrutiny group.

(1)《英语评论》(English Review,1908年-1913年)是一份英语语言文学杂志。该杂志由福德·曼德克斯·休弗(Ford Madox Hueffer)和福德·曼德克斯·福德(Ford Madox Ford)兄弟于1908年创办,有着很高的学术品味,曾率先刊登现代主义作家D.H.劳伦斯和詹姆斯·乔伊斯的作品。撰稿人中包括T.S.艾略特、托马斯·哈代、约瑟夫·康拉德、罗伯特·弗罗斯特等作家。

(5)剑桥大学于1911年设立爱德华七世英国文学教授席位,以鼓励高等教育中的文学研究。该席位由大众报业大亨哈罗德·哈姆斯沃思爵士(Sir Harold Harmsworth)出资赞助。获此项殊荣的第一位剑桥学者是亚瑟·伍尔加·沃尔罗教授(Arthur Woollgar Verrall,1911年),第二位是亚瑟·奎拉·库奇爵士(Sir Arthur Quiller-Couch,1912年),第三位是巴斯勒·威力教授(Basil Willey,1946年),第四位是L.C.奈兹教授(L.C.Knights,1965年)。
(6)《旁观者》(The Spectator)是英国全国性周刊中最悠久的杂志之一,创刊于1828年,现由巴克莱兄弟(Barclay Brothers)和《每日电讯报》拥有。该杂志聚焦国内政治和文化热点,笔锋偏于保守,涵盖题材广泛,对书籍、音乐、戏剧、电影、电视节目的评论占相当比例。
