(1)今天所说的词学,多侧重在研究的一方面。但传统所说的“词学”与“诗学”一样,都是兼创作与研究两者而言的,且以创作为重。况周颐《蕙风词话》(北京:人民文学出版社1982年,第3页):“词之为道,智者之事。酌剂乎阴阳,陶写乎性情。自有元音,上通雅乐。别黑白而定一尊,亘古今而不敝矣。唐宋已还,大雅鸿达;笃好而专精之,谓之词学。”这里所说词学,当然包括有关词的学问,但主体仍是指倚声填词之道,古人又称“倚声之学”,如陈廷焯《白雨斋词话》:“倚声之学,千有余年,作者代出;顾能上溯风骚,与为表里,自唐迄今,合者无几。”其所侧重仍在创作一道。 (2)有学者认为,由于词体文学的晚出和“它在中国古代社会中一直被正统文化势力卑视为‘小道'、‘末技'和‘余事',在重视史的‘国学'里迄未占据它本应占据的位置。”又指出:“在二十世纪的词学研究史上,‘文学史'意义上的‘词史'这一观念的明确也是为时很晚的。本世纪头三十年,未见这方面的讨论。直到三十年代中期,当一些事实上属于词史的著作如胡云翼《宋词研究》、刘毓盘《词史》、吴梅《词学通论》、王易《词曲史》等等流行于世都许久了,而在一些著名的词学学者那里,对于什么叫词史还是颇有歧义。”董乃斌、陈伯海、刘扬忠主编《中国文学史学史》第3册(石家庄:河北人民出版社,2003年):71、73。
