Abstract:

The study of art history is closely related to historical research in both China and the West. Early research on art history in Western and Chinese history is based on classical art and its development, generated by the mainstream cultural tradition. Since Johann Gottfried von Herder advocated folk literature and art in the eighteenth century, the writing of art history has broken through the classical view of art history through the discovery of the value of folk art, which bridges the gap between the two cultural memories of the “great tradition” and the “little tradition” to form a new art history. Since the twentieth century, the development of history and art history has influenced the study of their relationships, forming an interaction between the study of art history and the activation concept of history. This new view of art history is of great significance for the study of the relationship between the writing of art history and the activation and inheritance of traditional cultural heritage.
