摘要： 从小说对社会风俗、时代环境、自然风物、服饰器物等社会生活内容的不同描写方式及其效果出发，可以将中国古代小说分成具体型、抽象型与半具体半抽象型三大类。这一分类方法不再以小说的情节、人物、主题等基本要素作为分类标准，从而为考察古代小说的艺术特色与作家的思维特点提供了一个新的视角。

Abstract: The paper proposes an alternative way to categorize ancient Chinese novels in terms of their representation and its effects of social customs, historical background, natural scenes and objects, and it argues for three categories to be the concrete representation, the abstract representation, and the half concrete half abstract representation. This categorization does not take the fundamental elements such as plot, character, and theme to be the criteria, and it may offer a new perspective to examine the artistic characteristics of ancient novels and the authors’ way of thinking.
