Tarrying with the Surface: The Screen Theory of Slavoj Žižek

Abstract: Centered around Lacan's concept "screen-image", this paper, proceeding from Žižek's interpretation of Lacanian psychoanalysis, especially from Žižek's critical theory of ideology, tries to elaborate, on the level of the image, how "the real/the Real" is visually constructed, and to demonstrate that the invisible is not the mystery beneath the appearance, but the manner with which the real "tarries with the surface".
